Midyear Report 2002-2003

January 10, 2003

The following highlights the current status of 2002-2003 Medical Informatics Section (MIS) Goals.

Goal 1: Professional Development

Continuing on successful professional development activities of this section during the past two years, this year the section is organizing online journal clubs on two topics: Knowledge Management, coordinated by Taneya Koonce, and Technology Trends and Forecasting coordinated by Wallace McLendon.

Rebecca Jerome is developing an online module for sharing best practices for literature-filtering and evidence-based services. The module will be available online to section members in March 2003.

Goal 2: Advocacy

The section promoted the Medical Informatics Section/MLA Career Development Grant. The grant was publicized via different avenues, including postings to the MIS listserv. Applications were due December 1, 2002 and notifications of grant winners will be announced in February 2003. Kris Alpi has coordinated these efforts.

John Clark is currently finalizing the online directory tool that will be offered to MIS members. The tool will be made available to section members through a link from the MIS Website in February 2003.

Goal 3: Information Technology

The section is sponsoring or co-sponsoring five programs for the 2003 Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA. Section Chair-Elect, Jean Sayre, has managed this effort. MIS involvement in the programming for the meeting is as follows:
