Welcome/Introductions
The breakfast meeting was called to order at 7:10 AM by the Chair of
the Section, Catherine Arnott Smith. Twenty-one members were present for
the meeting. Catherine Arnott Smith took minutes for Colleen Cuddy, our
Secretary/Treasurer, who was unable to attend the annual meeting. The
MI Section had invited M.J. Tooey (also an MIS member) to attend the business
meeting. MJ Tooey thanked the section for inviting her to the breakfast
meeting and gave an update/overview of the past year's MLA activities.
Review of the 2005 Business Meeting Minutes
The minutes of the 2005 business meeting were distributed to attendees
and no changes were requested.
Reports
Secretary/Treasurer: Colleen Cuddy provided a copy of
her report to the Chair prior to the meeting and copies were distributed
to attendees.
Nominating Committee/Elections (Nancy Allee): An
election was successfully held during February and March and Nancy reported
to the membership via e-mail on March 24 that the results were:
Chair-elect 2006-07/Chair 2007-08: Janis Brown
MLA Nominating Committee Candidate: Marie Ascher
These results were re-stated by Joan Gregory at this Business Meeting.
Bylaws Committee Chair: Colleen Cuddy Nothing to report,
although there was discussion relating to this Committee later in the
meeting (see below under New Business).
Membership Committee: Mike Kronenfeld reiterated comments
made earlier via the Section's Midyear report, as follows:
Mike discovered in early April that there is no consistent means by which
Sections are informed of new members. When Kronenfeld compared the most
recent membership list with the current listing of MIS members, there
was a big difference. After consulting with the Chair, Kronenfeld in April
overhauled the MIS listserv by deleting all subscribed members and re-populating
with new members as per MLA's current information.
A list of new members will be ordered quarterly and from discussions
at the Section Council meeting, it appears that MLA will be able to handle
this frequency of update. Mike also wanted to let other MIS members take
over the membership responsibilities. Sadie Honey has volunteered to manage
the list.
Section Council: Joan Gregory

and there was discussion, about the theme for 2007, "Information

- Technology Trends - invited speakers to present the "latest"
in techo developments

given and this section fully funds these career development grants. The

Justice, of the Christiana Hospital Library, Christiana Care Health System,
Newark, DE.
Chair: Catherine Arnott Smith referred to the Section's
Annual Report available at http://www.medinfo.mlanet.org/ARCH_ANNRpt/AnnRep0506.html.
New Business:
- Contributions to the Lindberg Research Fellowship were not made this
year due to the "administrative issues" in handing over material
from one Secretary/Treasurer to the next. It was proposed by Beth Layton
and seconded unanimously that the MIS would give a donation of $3,000:
$2,000 to the principal, and $1,000 specified as in memory of Jean Sayre,
late Chair of this Section.
- For electronic balloting to take place in 2007, the Section needs
to make changes to its bylaws.
- Discussion concerning the balance of the MIS treasury involved putting
a large percentage in a CD or some interest bearing account.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 AM.
