JoLinda Thompson
JoLinda Thompson, AHIP, is Library Systems Coordinator at Himmelfarb
Health Sciences Library, George Washington University Medical Center.
JoLinda's career has included roles in reference, education, access services,
technical services, and systems support. She recently served as content
editor of Technical Trends. She received her Masters in Library Science
from the University of Pittsburgh.
The integrated library system is on the brink of the kind of profound
change that we've already seen with OPACs. In the next two years some
revolutionary products will start coming to the market (Kuali OLE, Ex
Libris' URM, OCLC Worldcat Management System). Application Programming
Interfaces (APIs) that utilize web services are helping legacy and traditional
systems bridge the gap and SOA (service oriented architecture) will be
an important element in emerging systems.
