The integrated library system is on the brink of the kind of profound change that we've already seen with OPACs. In the next two years some revolutionary products will start coming to the market (Kuali OLE, Ex Libris' URM, OCLC Worldcat Management System). Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that utilize web services are helping legacy and traditional systems bridge the gap and SOA (service oriented architecture) will be an important element in emerging systems.
